Wayne Rooney was named on the bench as United began their Club World Cup campaign against J.League outfit Gamba.

Rooney suffered a minor knock in training on Tuesday and Sir Alex Ferguson decided against risking the England international, preferring Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.

As expected, old stagers Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were all included against a Gamba side whose main threat was expected to come from Yasuhito Endo and Brazilian forward Lucas.

Kick-off is at 10.30am GMT.

Gamba Osaka v Man Utd teams:

Gamba Osaka: Fujigaya, Kaji, Nakazawa, Yamaguchi, Endo, Michihiro Yasuda, Myojin, Hashimoto, Bando, Lucas, Yamazaki.

Subs: Matsuyo, Shimohira, Terada, Futagawa, Kurata, Takei, Roneliton.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Tevez.

Subs: Kuszczak, Rafael Da Silva, O'Shea, Evans, Carrick, Fletcher, Gibson, Park, Welbeck, Rooney, Amos.

Referee: Benito Archundia Tellez (Mexico).

I bet Rooney will be gutted not to play, but im sure Man UTD will be able to win without Rooney, as they look like they have played a very difficult team. I will be posting updates on the match as soon as I know

HALFTIME

HT has finished and the score stands at Man UTD 2-0 Gamba Osaka
GOALS
28: GOAL VIDIC! Giggs' corner from the right is headed home by a strong header from Vidic on the edge of the six-yard box. Fujigava came for the ball but got nowhere near it. Manchester United lead 1-0.
45: GOAL RONALDO! Giggs' corner from the right is headed home by the unmarked Ronaldo from eight yards. Osaka have no idea how to defend crosses and that has proved their downfall so far.

If Man UTD keep crossing the ball in, im sure they will be able to find some more goals

FULL TIME

Its FT and the score is Man UTD 5-3 Gamba Osaka
GOALS
74: GOAL YAMAZAKI! Yamazaki finds space on the edge of the Manchester United box and sends a great effort into the bottom left hand corner of van der Sar's goal.
75: GOAL ROONEY! Rooney runs onto Fletcher's neat pass and sends a scrappy effort past Fujigava and from 10 yards. Manchester United have quickly regained their two goal advantage.
78: GOAL FLETCHER! Evra's cross from the left is headed home by Fletcher from eight yards. Manchester United are looking like scoring everytime they attack.
79: GOAL ROONEY! Rooney runs onto Giggs' through ball and sends a low shot past Fujigava from just inside the Osaka box. This match has come alive in the last few minutes
83: GOAL ENDO! Endo sends the ball past van der Sar into the bottom right hand corner of his goal. That was a very calm finish from the Osaka playmaker.
90: GOAL HASHIMOTO! Hashimoto powers into the Manchester United box and sends a superb effort just inside van der Sar's left hand post. The Red Devils' goalkeeper had no chance of dealing with that shot.

So, Man UTD have booked themselves into the Final
